Festivaliberación/Liberation Fest is a day-long concert/festival that will take place in Charlotte, NC as the kick-off of the mobilization to March on Wall Street South and other actions around the Democratic National Convention. The festival is organized by and centered around youth, students, and immigrants, and will feature TEACH-INS, WORKSHOPS, DISCUSSIONS, SPOKEN WORD, SPEAK OUTS, other events centered around getting people (THAT MEANS YOU!) educated, aware, and involved!

There will also be a big CONCERT in the evening featuring hip-hop, punk rock, folk, spoken word, and much more.

Parking is available in the neighborhoods surrounding Area 15. Please be respectful of the neighbors, don’t block driveways or leave trash behind! Volunteers at the festival can give more details on parking if you are having difficulties.

In the year 2050, census reports in the United States will show a nation in which people of color are a majority. While CEO’s, pundits, and politicians of the ruling class argue over the significance of this moment, the 2050 generation has already arrived. Today’s youth are connected in unprecedented ways, representing a global generation faced with the realities of environmental destruction, austerity, stagnating opportunity, increasing militarism and racism. In the shadows of an exploitative global power structure, young people are pushing back for their futures and rising up in beautiful movements around the world.

To honor our generation’s youth and add to their record of inspiring resistance, The Coalition to March on Wall Street South will kick off its demonstrations for the 2012 DNC with Festival Liberación-LiberationFest–a free, day-long festival which will bring together spoken word performers, artists, and musicians to celebrate a youth liberation vision. This day is a space to build connections among youth, with the goal of exchanging the keys to a world without fear of deportation, racial profiling, or heterosexist violence–a world with livelihoods for all people and justice for our planet.

The festival will take place on September 1st at Area 15 on North Davidson Street in Charlotte. This location serves as a living example of a different future and will give the festival a “block party” atmosphere. Within our space will be places for childcare, language access, food, discussion, art, poetry, and music. We welcome all people and families to this festival. Issues facing today’s youth are the challenges of the future, and we will have to face them together. we are calling North Carolina’s activists and friends of the south, art communities, and YOU, to help bring this festival to life. Festivaliberación es un concierto/festival que tomara lugar en Charlotte, NC para comenzar la movilización de la marcha en Wall Street Del Sur y otras acciones alrededor de La Convención Nacional Demócrata. El censo del año 2050 informa que los Estados Unidos tendrá una populación donde las personas de color serán la mayoría. Mientras que los CEO’s, expertos, y los políticos de la clase dominante discuten de la significancia de este momento, la generación de 2050 ya ha llegado. Los jóvenes de hoy están conectados en formas sin precedentes, representando una generación global enfrentando las realidades de la destrucción del medio ambiente, austeridad, estancamiento de oportunidades, aumento de militarismo y racismo. En las sombras de una estructura global explotadora, los jóvenes están luchando por sus futuros y se están levantando en bellos movimientos alrededor del mundo.

Para honorar a los jóvenes de nuestra generación y seguir inspirando resistencia, La Coalición para Marchar en Wall Street Del Sur va a arrancar sus demonstraciones para la Convención Demócrata Nacional 2012 con el Festivaliberación, un festival que reunirá a intérpretes de poesía, artistas, y músicos para celebrar una visión de la liberación juvenil. Esta locación sirve como un ejemplo vivo de un futuro diferente y que le dará al festival una atmosfera de una “Fiesta en la Cuadra 15.” Dentro de nuestro espacio habrá locaciones para Cuidado de Niños, interpretación (Accesibilidad para otros lenguajes), comida, discusiones, arte, poesía y música. Les damos la bienvenida a todas las personas y familias a este festival. Los problemas que la juventud de hoy enfrenta son los desafíos del futuro, y tendremos que enfrentarlos juntos.
